Icebergs
From the beauty and majesty of their sheer size to the heart-wrenching memories of ill-fated ships, nothing evokes such a combination of awe, curiosity and caution quite like an iceberg. So if you're looking for icebergs, you've come to the right place.

Newfoundland and Labrador is the greatest iceberg theatre in the world. Twillingate is often knows as the Iceberg Alley, one of the only places in the world where you can see two or three story icebergs making their way down the Atlantic Ocean from Greenland.

You can often see these from the lighthouse and many lookouts around town. For those who like to get up close and personal there are also several boat tours in town, which make daily trips. Even better, it's not uncommon to see an Iceberg from your room window, or at our kitchen table as one drifts into Twillingate harbour.

Whale Watching
The waters of Newfoundland are home to the largest habitat of Humpback Whales in the world. The full moon in June usually brings the capelin (tiny fish) ashore, and the whales quickly follow. The best time to see whales is June through August.

Large numbers of whales, dolphins and porpoises migrate into the waters adjacent to the Newfoundland coast every year. About 15 species are normally present, seasonally or year-round.

You can often see them from the shore, or for a more lively thrill, you can experience them from the deck of a boat tour. For those who want something even more exciting, try seeing them from a sea kayak! Definitely not for the faint of heart to have any of these magnificent animals break the surface near you!

Hiking
The rocky cliffs of Newfoundland costal hiking trails are so breathtaking that they've been labeled one of the Top Ten Costal Trails In North America!

Twillingate is no exception and offers trails for all levels of experience and fitness. Climb the "Top of Twillingate" trail and view Icebergs and Whales from a panoramic lookout offering an amazing view of the island. Or maybe walk the cliffs overlooked by our lighthouse. Photo opportunities abound as you can explore the little known places Twillingate has to offer.
